Servo gears are the most common failure point in any servo. The gear train converts the motor's high-speed rotation into the torque that moves the steering, and it is the component that absorbs every impact transmitted back through the front wheels. A hard hit against a kerb or barrier travels up through the steering linkage and lands on these gears, which is why a stripped servo is such a familiar problem after a crash.

Symptoms are distinctive: the servo buzzes or grinds without moving, steering becomes intermittent, or there is a dead spot in one direction. Once teeth are stripped the servo will not recover on its own.

Rebuilding with this set is considerably cheaper than replacing the whole servo, and because the gears are metal rather than nylon they are more resistant to stripping in the first place.
